There are numerous methods for cooking salmon. Which one you choose will depend on your preference. If you’re new to cooking, you can try them all to see which you like best.
Baking
You start by seasoning the salmon with some butter. Next it is placed in a baking pan. Pre heat the oven to 350 degrees. Cooking time is based on thickness. Cook for 10 minutes for every inch. You’ll be measuring it from the thickest part. You’ll know it is done when the salmon starts to flake.
Steaming
For this method you need to use a steaming basket. Begin by putting the salmon parts in the rack. Sprinkle the liquid over it. This liquid can consist of water or some wine. Sprinkle in some spices and herbs (salt, pepper, cumin, etc).
To start cooking salmon, cover and let it boil. Set it to medium heat. Steaming time should take 60 seconds per ounce. When it’s done you can place them in cheese cloth. This dish is best served hot.
Poaching
Another popular cooking method is poaching. Create the poaching liquid. This consists of chicken broth, water and white wine (the wine is optional). Toss in a teaspoon of seasonings. Let it simmer.
If needed, pour in more water. Poaching time is 7 minutes. This dish can be served hot or cold. When served hot, it’s usually with lemon dill sauce.
Frying
This is another well known technique. Put oil or butter in the pan. Allow the butter or oil to get hot before you start cooking salmon. This method will let the salmon store the juices inside. However do not allow the oil to get too hot it smokes. Begin by putting the salmon in some milk. Dip it into some flour. Add any seasonings you may want.
Make sure the oil you put in is enough to soak up half the salmon. Set it to medium heat. Fry it from 3 to 5 minutes per side. Five minutes isn’t an exact time. What you want to do is wait until it turns gold brown. Depending on the salmon size, this may take more or less than five minutes.
Broiling
Before you start cooking salmon, preheat the oven and broiling pan for 10 minutes. Wash the fillets with cold water. Sprinkle flour all over it. Flavor the top part with some seasonings, butter or
both.
When you’re done, put the salmon on the broiler. Set it about three inches from the heat. There’s no need to flip fillets over. Baste it frequently with butter. For your last basting, add a bit of seasoning too. Salmon steaks need to be turned once.
Grilling
Preheat the grill to medium heat. Put some olive oil on the salmon. Set it on the grill with the skin side facing down. Cover and cook for 7 minutes. Flip it and cook for another 7 minutes. If it cooks too rapidly place the salmon on the cooler parts of the grill. Serve it with lemon juice.
