How to Build an Egyptian Pyramid

To build an Egyptian pyramid you only need a few simple tools. Make sure to assemble the paraphernalia first. This will allow you to create as many models as necessary with no interruption.

The Tools and Materials

Manuscript practice board (you can obtain these at any office supply store)
Scissors (you’ll need the strong heavy type)
A ruler
Plaster of Paris or clay

Assembling the Blocks

Use the Plaster of Paris to construct each block. This can be any size. Most make them 5 to 8 inches tall each. The number of blocks you will need depend on the scale of your project. For this reason it’s a good idea to plan ahead when you build an Egyptian pyramid.

When you have the blocks ready, slice a piece from the practice board (make it 10” x 10”). Use glue to set the blocks on this surface. After you have placed the blocks there, let them dry.

Making the Inner Chambers and Walls

This can be made from smaller blocks. Get four and arrange them to form a container. Put it in the midst of the structure. Glue them as necessary. Next make the outer walls. This will be to support the base. The real pyramids have plenty of inner chambers so create as many as you like.

To avoid difficulties you should create and insert these early on. If you plan to have a lot of chambers, make sure that the structure is large and wide enough to fit everything.

Putting the Other Blocks in Place

As you continue to build an Egyptian pyramid align the blocks carefully. Use the ruler if needed. If you want to have a removable top, don’t glue the upper part. Instead use your modeler to make a triangle. Place it at the top. If you don’t need a retractable top, you can glue everything. Most would prefer to have an opening though. This will allow you to see the things inside it.

Painting and Other Tips

Aside from the inner chamber you can put a tomb there. Make one using your plaster or clay. When you are finished you can paint them. Choose any color you like: most prefer yellow or gold. Some like to finish the project before painting. Others prefer to paint each piece as they build an Egyptian pyramid. The choice is up to you. If you want a more textured look, spray adhesive on the faces. Sprinkle sand. The sand will stick to it.

Finally, be creative. If you would rather have a multicolored structure, do it. You can make a whole complex. The one in Giza has several pyramids besides the three. There are plenty of pictures of these in books and on the Net. Make several with varying sizes. The temples are made of rectangular blocks so they are easy to create too.

It’s no wonder that a lot of people are enamored with the structures. Now that you know how to build an Egyptian pyramid, creating several will not just be easy but fun.
