How to Build Secret Compartments

There are many different ways to create hidden compartments. One of the most effective is by using a book. This is a safe way of hiding valuable things such as jewelry, money and many more. People who know how to build secret compartments always have peace of mind because they are guaranteed safe and protected from burglary and theft.

Materials Needed

When learning how to build secret compartments, particularly using a book, there is really no need to spend a lot of money. Simply get an old big hardcover book, preferably one that is in good condition. When choosing a book for this project, get one that deals about less interesting topics. By doing this, the chances of other people of finding this secret compartment are reduced significantly. In addition, bring in a small paintbrush, white glue and plastic wrap. Also important for this project are glue sticks and glue gun, craft knife and felt.

Steps

The very first thing to do is to prepare the book. After choosing one for this project, take the dust jacket off it. Be sure to get a book that is at least a couple of inches thick. The thicker the book, the more things will fit inside it. Leave at least 20 to 25 pages starting from the front cover. This will serve as cover later on. Clip these pages to the front cover and leave them untouched.

In a clean container, create a mixture comprised of half water and half glue. Stir until the two ingredients combine properly. Wrap the front cover as well as the clipped pages with plastic. Be sure not to put any glue on them. Do the same thing to the back cover.

Place the book on top of a flat sturdy surface. Apply pressure on the remaining pages. Use the paintbrush to put on some of the glue mixture at the outer parts of the held-together pages. Be sure to put ample amounts on the side, bottom and top. After this, simply close the book. Top it with a heavy object to ensure that the pages stick well with one another.

When the glue dries and the pages are bound together, take off the plastic covering the back and front parts of the book. Measure the desired length, width and depth of the compartment. Mark them with light pencil linings. Leave at least an inch of space from every border before cutting through the pages. Slowly cut through them. Do not hurry the process as it may compromise the result as well as the quality of the task. Do not cut through until the back cover. Instead, leave at least half an inch thick of pages.

Measure the hollow and then cover it with felt. Be sure to cover the bottom part as well as its four sides. Glue the felt properly. Return the dust jacket. Put inside the secret compartment valuable items like cash and jewelry. Place the book together with the other books at the bookshelf. Position it in a spot where it is unlikely to be found by other people.
