How to Install Vinyl Flooring

Installing vinyl flooring doesn’t require any professional help. With a little patience, you can start and finish the task much quicker than you think.

Required Tools and Materials

Cleanser
Roller (75 lb to 150 lbs)
Adhesive
Scrub
Adhesive remover
Bucket of water
Tape measure
Floor scraper

Preparing the Flooring

Carefully take off the carpet or whatever flooring is installed. Use the floor scraper to level the wooden floor. You can use a sander instead. For concrete surfaces, scrub it with a brush. Use the cleanser as needed.

Any cracks or fissures must be repaired before proceeding with the installation. Whatever the surface type, it must be flattened out.

Sweep the floor of all dirt. Wash the floor if needed. Allow it to dry completely. If you’re installing vinyl flooring, ensure the floor temperature is right for the adhesive.

Making Measurements

Use the tape measure to get the flooring dimensions. Work your measurements around cabinets and other fixed structures. Move the other furniture and appliances around so you can make precise measurements. Most would recommend moving the furniture around prior to starting this task.

Putting the Vinyl in Place

Unroll the vinyl. Flatten it as much as possible. Use the measurements you made earlier to set the vinyl up. Allocate an additional inch so fitting will be sufficient. Cut the vinyl according to the desired size and shape. Set it on the dry floor. Avoid ripping the vinyl when setting it in place.

Pick a starting point for installing vinyl flooring. Pull some of the material so it doesn’t dry up. Check the instructions for how much adhesive to use. Don’t put any more glue when you get to a couple of inches on the wall.

Repeat this process for the rest of the vinyl. Each vinyl package will have different instructions for applying them over the glue. Read and follow the directions. If necessary, use the roller to level the vinyl.

Tips and Warnings

Allow the vinyl time to dry before replacing the furniture. Read the instructions; the drying time will be mentioned there. Put the furniture back when the material has completely dried.

Try this technique when installing vinyl flooring. Roll the material one half. Apply the glue over the area and put the vinyl over it. Flatten it down.

Vinyl flooring can be used in any area, but most apply it in high traffic spots. Put it in places where dirt and moisture are often present. Unlike wood or carpet, vinyl is a breeze to clean up.
Multiply the area length by the width to obtain the required material. The result is the needed square footage.

When buying, add 20% more to the total in case you make mistakes or rip some pieces accidentally. Except for carpet, vinyl can be put over any other surface. However the surface needs to be level and also dry.

Installing vinyl flooring won’t just provide for an attractive appearance. This material can also be durable, giving protection to your flooring for a good many years.
