Natural Remedies for Acne

Acne has been a serious issue for many teenagers for centuries. The pimples can appear almost anywhere from the cheek to the back and if left untreated will affect not only the complexion but one’s self-esteem as well. Home remedies for curing and/or preventing acne are as simple as one can imagine or as bizarre. Acne remedies run the full gamut and can be as simple as vitamins like Zinc or as weird as toothpaste! They will work for some and not for others depending on the metabolism, the skin type and other mitigating factors. The best advice, therefore, is to experiment with different solutions until the ideal remedy is ascertained. When trying these remedies always remember to test on a small area of skin first to find out if the skin will become irritated by the treatment. If the skin does become irritated, please discontinue usage, regardless of the benefits of the treatment.

Acne remedies- Lime juice, lemon juice, toothpaste, honey, papaya and potato

Lime juice
A simple and effective home remedy for the prevention of blackheads and pimples is a mixture of lime juice and groundnut oil. Combine one tablespoon of groundnut oil with one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice and apply to the affected area daily. This will prevent the formation of pimples and blackheads.

Lemon juice
Combine equal parts of lemon juice and groundnut oil to form a paste. Apply to the affected area and leave on for fifteen minutes before thoroughly washing with warm water.

Toothpaste
For an effective overnight remedy for acne, toothpaste has been tried and proven. Dab a bit of toothpaste on the pimple and this will dry the zit out. Try it on a small area to see if the skin becomes irritated. Use the white paste variety, not the gel type of toothpaste. The properties in the toothpaste will draw the pimple out without leaving a blemish. Please remember that if the toothpaste is left on the skin for too long irritation may result.

Honey
Honey can kill the bacteria found within the dermis and it also moistens and protects the skin. Apply the honey to the skin, spreading evenly. Leave on for thirty minutes before properly rinsing to avoid stickiness. Additionally, honey can be mixed with cinnamon powder, three parts honey to one part cinnamon and applied overnight.

Papaya
Papaya juice is considered to be one of the best treatments for acne. Apply the fresh papaya juice to the pimples and leave on for about thirty minutes for the best results. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.

Potato
Wash thoroughly and then grate a raw potato. Put the grated potato between two strips of gauze to make a pad. Rub the potato pad over the affected areas in firm circular motions for five minutes then wash the area with water. Furthermore, the potato may be cut into slices and applied straight to the affected areas. The potato juices help to remove blemishes and also acne scars.
