How to Cook Corned Beef

Corned beef refers to a processed food in which the meat was cured with coarse salts. Corned Beef and Cabbage

In this recipe, you need a large head cabbage, eight peppercorns and a corned beef brisket. Additionally, you will use six cloves garlic, five parsnips, two turnips, two bay leaves, a pound of carrots, six large potatoes, a stalk of celery, ½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning and ¼ teaspoon black pepper.

Wash the meat and put slits in the brisket. Insert garlic in the slits. Pour a liter of water in a stockpot and add the meat, bay leaves, two carrots, Old Bay seasoning, peppercorns as well as the sliced celery. Heat the stockpot over medium heat. Wait for the mixture to boil. Change the heat setting to low heat. Simmer for an hour to two hours. Slice the cabbage and peel carrots, potatoes, parsnips and turnips. Add the vegetables and cook for an hour. Drain the water and serve immediately.

Oven Baked Corned Beef

For this special dish, you need five pounds corned beef, seven medium potatoes, 16 small carrots, a pound of cabbage, ½ cup of parsley sprigs, ¼ cup mayonnaise, a teaspoon of mustard and a teaspoon of horseradish. To enhance the aroma as well as the taste of this dish, you need a bay leaf.

Pour a liter of water in a covered roaster and add the meat. Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the roaster inside the oven and bake for three hours to four hours. Remove the roaster from the oven and pour three cups of water in the roaster. Peel and slice potatoes and carrots. Add the potatoes and carrots. Return the roaster to oven and cook for one and a half hour. Remove the roaster from the oven and add the cabbage in the roaster. Cover the roaster. After 10 minutes, transfer the meat to a clean plate. Slice the beef and arrange the cabbage around the beef. Mix the mayonnaise, horseradish and mustard in a small bowl. Serve the dish with the sauce.
